8 Great Camera Tips to Capture a Room's Size

Every square foot counts, buyers love spacious homes!

  1. Remove area rugs-rugs break up the floor and make the rooms look smaller!
  2. Get creative with furniture-too much furniture in a small room or big furniture works against you and makes the room appear smaller. Put it in the garrage. Less is more!
  3. Use a wide-angle camera- a camera with a wide-angle lens of 28 millimeters or less is best for interior shots. It magnifies the distance between objects and showcases a room's depth!
  4. Fill up empty space-buyers have trouble imaging how their furniture will fit into an empty room or what the primary use of the room is. Stage it!
  5. Love mirrors- a reflection in a mirror can reveal more of a room and make it appear larger, especially in bath rooms.
  6. Lighten it up-bright rooms come across as open and welcoming, where dark rooms can look small and dingy. Turn on all the lights and open the curtains. Take a small shop light with you and focus it on the ceiling for indirect light!
  7. Shoot at an angle- the longest line in the room is from corner to corner. Take 3-4 shots at different angels. Shoot some shots at knee level, it makes the room look bigger!
  8. Remove clutter- it makes a room look cramped and distracts the buyers attention. Clear paper stacks, crowded walls of family pics, cluttered counter tops, frig magnets and towels hanging from the stove!

Remember, most buyer's start their new home search online.  Pictures are what they are looking for and what makes them want to visit your listing.
